Champ Ensminger is a Thai American filmmaker born in Chiang Mai and raised in Spokane, Washington.

From growing up in quiet American suburbs, with a strong Thai presence from his mother's side of the family, to exploring themes of cultural hybridity in media as a filmmaker and editor, Champ sees cross-cultural identity in storytelling as his field of play.

He returned to Chiang Mai in 2013, where he spent time as a volunteer and workshop instructor at Documentary Arts Asia, a non-profit aimed at bringing agency and exposure to Asia-based media artists.

The fun of filmmaking, especially from someone familiar with entertainment from other cultures, is choosing influences that go beyond Hollywood. And Champ is inspired by this plurality of voices in filmmaking – much like his own family history. He enjoys the spectacle of cinematographers like Emmanuel Lubezki and Roger Deakins; the uneasy tension in the films of Jonathan Glazer; and the quiet meditations of life by auteurs like Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul and animation legend Hayao Miyazaki.

Champ holds a degree in Comparative Literature and Anthropology from the University of Washington, and is currently a part of the production team at World Famous in Seattle. Check out his awesome works HERE!
