Born and raised in Paris to a French father and Chinese-American mother, Joseph Altuzarra was surrounded by fashion from such an early age.
Not only did he study ballet for eight years, but he graduated with a bachelors degree in art history from Swarthmore University in Pennsylvania. Afterwards, Joseph interned at Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler in New York, then relocated to Paris to hone his technical design skills through an apprenticeship with patternmaker Nicolas Caïto.
By 2010, Joseph launched, Altuzarra – a luxury women's ready-to-wear clothing brand. Since his launch, Joseph's accolades include: Council of Fashion Designers America (CFDA)/Vogue Fashion Fund award (2011); Forbes 30 Under 30 (2012); CFDA Swarovoski Award for Womenswear Design (2012); CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year (2014).
As of today, his collections continue to be influenced by his multi-cultural upbringing, art and film.
