Not everyone can pull off being addressed by a mononym, however, Jidenna is the man to do it. The R&B singer/producer was born in Wisconsin and partially raised in Nigeria where his father worked as a university professor.
Likely taking a cue from his father, Jidenna turned down a record deal to attend Stanford University, where he learned sound engineering and earned a degree in ritualistic arts. After graduating, Jidenna moved to LA to pursue his music career full-time.
Known for his “classic man” style, he has described his attraction to 3-piece suits as being inspired by the Harlem Renaissance and traditional West African design. Additionally, he has explained that his music is influenced by the Nigerian highlife genre.
