Raised in Waldorf, Maryland, Christina Milian adopted her stage name from her Cuban mother, Carmen Milian. By four years old, Christina showed interest in show business, and her family soon realized that she had the gift of gab.

She began auditioning with local talent agencies, where she landed commercial roles that prompted her mother to take action on Christina’s star potential – making the decision to move the family cross country to Los Angeles. Christina would work her way from a hosting gig on the Disney Channel, to landing her first professional musical appearance on rapper Ja Rule’s song, Between Me And You. Her vocals on this lead single, pushed the song to position #11 on Billboard Hot 100, and opened the doors for her first record deal.

Since the early 2000s, Christina continues to follow her passion for singing in acting: being an opening act on tour for Usher and Kanye West; receiving a Grammy Award nomination for ‘Best Contemporary R&B Album’ in 2005 for her album It’s About Time, which included her biggest hit single to date, Dip It Low; and appearing in numerous roles in film and television.

Interesting fact: Christina was the backstage social media correspondent on The Voice (season 2), which won an Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Reality-Competition Program’ in 2013.
