Aimee Carrero was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and raised in Miami, Florida. She began performing in musical theater at just 14 years old at summer camps. And immediately after obtaining her degree in international relations from Florida International University in 2008, Aimee’s passion for acting moved her to Los Angeles, California. A year later, Aimee made her voice-acting debut in the animated comedy, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

Through her various guest appearances in film and television since 2007, including Hannah Montana, Lincoln Heights and The Mentalist, Aimee was able to land her first lead role on Cartoon Network’s live-action film Level Up in 2011. The movie turned television series grew Aimee’s audience for the next two years, building a path to her next lead role on The Freeform (formerly ABC Family) sitcom Young and Hungry (2014 – present).

In June 2016, Aimee made history when she became Disney’s first Latina princess! Aimee provides the lead voice of Elena on Disney channel’s Elena of Avalor (a spinoff of the Disney Junior’s series Sofia The First), which is inspired by Latin American culture. Not only was the series renewed for a second season, but it also became a crossover television movie titled Elena and the Secret of Avalor, which premiered in November 2016.

Because of Aimee’s history-making role as princess Elena, it is exciting to know that Latina children will see a character that looks and sounds like them on television. Job well done Aimee!

Interesting facts: Aimee is fluent in Spanish and plays the guitar.
